At Ella Vanilla, we believe that you don’t have to be a professional cake artist or baker to create fabulous cakes, cupcakes or cookies. We also know that there is way more cool stuff available to bakeries and professional cake artists than what the big box hobby stores offer. Our team of talented cake artists is always scouting for the most inspiring cake decorations, premium-grade specialty tools, and hard-to-find ingredients to make the sugar arts easily accessible to everyone—beginners and industry professionals alike—in our online shop or at our lovely Chestnut Hill location in Philadelphia.
We take special care in selecting our products and we try our best to be environmentally conscious. We think that our glass sprinkle jars are so darn cute that you’ll want to reuse them over and over! But if not, they are recyclable. Our DIY Cake Kit boxes, disposable cake pans, cake drums and inner packaging boxes are also recyclable. Whenever possible, we carry quality products made in the United States, such as the majority of our cookie cutters, any decorations with a CK Product label, many of our specialty sprinkles and candies, and the entire line of AmeriColor food coloring supplies. The Ella Vanilla team assembles all of the DIY cake kits and fulfills all online orders from our Chestnut Hill shop.
Educated in fine art and art history, owner Noelle DeSantis is always looking for ways to promote the artistry of cake decorating by teaching hands-on cake decorating classes, giving lectures on cake artistry as well as curating cake shows, including four cake exhibitions at the Woodmere Art Museum and several in her own shop, including two inspired by Harry Potter. .
The Ella Vanilla team also loves to give back so we’ve launched our own charitable program called Cake a Difference, which brings the creativity and fun of cake decorating to those who might not have the opportunity to experience it otherwise. Our first event was launched in May of 2016 in conjunction with an inner-city school art program where we taught 8th graders how to create a fabulous mini cake with gum paste roses, piping and decorating techniques! We did it again in 2017 with high school students in the Kensington section of Philadelphia.
Over the years we have also made both monetary and specialty cake donations to Icing Smiles, a non-profit that gives children battling serious illness the birthday cake of their dreams. If you’d like to know more about this special organization, please click here. We had the honor of making several cakes for kids, including the following ones for Kevin and Wilson, both of whom we are happy to say have successfully kicked cancer to the curb!
